The Wrap

  Once the female is ready she will join the male under his bubblenest.  You may also notice her nudging the male in his side.  He will then wrap himself around her to squeeze the eggs out.   It may take a couple of goes before any eggs appear and when they do he will collect them as they fall and off the bottom of the tank, then swim back up and put them in the nest.  As he does this the female will quite often float lifeless under the nest and after a few seconds will recover and the male will wrap her again.  Sometimes the female will pinch some of the eggs for herself as a snack and some have even been known to help put them in the nest.

The wrapping can take up to 2 hrs and once the female is no longer welcome under the nest and gets chased away by the male, it's time to take her out and give her a good feed and lots of TLC.
